Pravo na Grad shipping container in VaršavskaThe Head of the City Office of Civil Construction Davor Jelavić denied yesterday his statement of February 23, when he claimed that no new official approval would be necessary to allow takeover of Varšavska Street to create construction site for the building of access ramp to the “Cvjetni Project” undeground garage, developed by the Hoto Group, and signed a new decision that was presented to the tenants of the street.
The citizens in Varšavska can appeal the new decision within 15 days from the day of reception. Pravo na Grad (Right to a City) and Zelena Akcija, associations that have been fighting the abuses of public space in Zagreb in favour of private interest for several years, say they intend to use the two weeks to plan new protests and legal actions to stop the devastation of the pedestrian zone in the street.
“We wonder, after Jelavić’s recent statements and actions, if he is simply incompetent or too interested to seek Hoto Group’s project go through. He should come out in public to report what was the subject of his talks with Tomislav Horvatinčić held in his office yesterday”, say Pravo na Grad and Zelena Akcija in a statement for the public.
On a related matter, the Zagreb Court of Misdemeanours acquitted the four activists arrested on the night of February 11 of all charges for disorderly behaviour, entry into the areal restricted by police tape and resisting arrest.
The police intervened on invitation of communal officials to assist the removal of shipping containers, horse statue and activists from Varšavska street who protested the construction works on the access ramp to the garage of the Cvjetni project housing and office complex. During the intervention, the Police arrested Katja Crevar (20), Ivana Jandrić (23), Vedran Gračan (28) and Tomislav Tomašević (28), who denied all charges of the Police.
