A number of internet issues will be discussed in reports considered at this session, touching on online hate speech, harassment and persecution of journalists and human rights defenders, the importance of data collection and disaggregation for advancing human rights, and the role of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in facilitating the fulfilment of other human rights.

The Stockholm Internet Forum, an international forum for discussions on how a free, open and secure internet promotes human rights and development worldwide, has started in Stockholm. At APC, we have been involved in the Forum since its inception, mostly focusing on ensuring that a global South and feminist perspective is incorporated into the discussions about access.

Women Human Rights Defenders condemn online threats against Bondita Acharya
Bondita Acharya received death threats, as well as being threatened with acid attack, rape and gang rape, after condemning the arrest of three people for the possession of beef on 4 April 2017. The attacks on her include trolling on her Facebook account and other social media with sexually laden, criminal and defamatory posts.
