The Union of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) comments that yesterday’s resignation by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was not a moral act and that it would be “only fair towards the citizens and the electorate” for the Government to admit that it wasn’t able to deal with the accumulated political and economic problems, such as the falling economy and the deteriorating relations with neighbouring countries and EU.
"Instead of using the press-conference to announce his resignation, Sanader should have taken the responsibilities and called the citizens, workers and social partners to national unity, tell the truth about the situation in Croatia and appeal for a national consensus to overcome the crisis”, SSSH says.
The Unions add that the whole Government, evidently incompetent and unable to solve the problems, should have resigned together with the Prime Minister, noting that its social partners feel betrayed after Sanader’s repeated claims he would win an eventual elections again.
