Government’s Lynch-Mob Rhetoric Threatens Democracy in Kosovo

Kosovo’s nongovernmental organizations expressed their concerns over the threatening rhetoric used by representatives of Kosovo Government towards civil society representatives, condemning such statements they deem an open lynch call.

In accordance with international law, principles of human rights and the existing legal framework in Kosovo, institutions have obligation to investigate, pursue and to punish perpetrators of acts of domestic violence. These two conventions are directly applicable in Kosovo legislation, incorporated in Kosovo's new Constitution, adopted on 15 June 2008. The Central Council of Roma in Germany demanded from the German Government to revoke the agreement for repatriation with Kosovo and demand that all those who have stayed in Germany for more than ten years to be awarded permanent residency status. According to the Council, the Roma are still targeted community in the Balkans.
